Industrial Cadets Gold Award two-day workshop
In January, WHSB’s team of six Lower Sixth Design and Technology students were excited to take part in this year’s Industrial Cadets Gold Award two-day workshop at Canterbury Christ Church University in Kent.
Run by the Engineering Development Trust (EDT), the Industrial Cadets initiative is a six-month long programme designed to give Year 12 students across the UK a realistic insight into a career in engineering. Students are grouped into teams of between four and six, and commit over fifty hours to their project which takes over sixteen weeks.
Over the course of these two days, supported by their mentor from Basildon based defence and international security company Leonardo, our students made the most of the opportunity of being able to use the specialist equipment available to develop and test their designs.
Following the workshop, the team are continuing to work on a prototype of their ideas before the deadline at Easter, when the students’ projects will be put forward and presented to a panel of industry experts and professionals. We wish the team well, and thank Mr Wright and his colleagues in the Design & Technology Department for all their support and encouragement for our students.
