Our Upper Sixth Physics students enjoyed their visit to the Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station, a Pressure Water Reactor nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast. The students will be studying nuclear power station design as part of their A Level Physics course, so visiting and touring a working nuclear power station has been a tremendously beneficial experience for them.

As part of the visit, students toured the facility and attended a lecture about how nuclear power stations operate. They also visited the turbine room and saw – and heard – the enormous turbines spinning at 3000 rpm, transferring enough energy to supply 3.4 million homes, on average (the equivalent of nearly every home in the East of England).
