WHSB Donates to Southend Food Bank with a "Reverse" Advent Calendar
Donating to Southend’s Foodbank became a key focus at Westcliff High School for Boys this December, with the entire School Community contributing to a “Reverse Advent Calendar”. Almost 1800 items have been collected as a result of this Lower School (Years 7 to 9) initiative and delivered to the Trussell Trust Southend Food Bank headquarters in Southchurch Road, Southend-on-Sea. Every year Food Banks across the country see an increase in demand during December for emergency food supplies for those struggling and in crisis.
Jonathan Bleakley, Director of Lower School said:
“We are immensely proud of our younger pupils, their families and all those within our School Community who have taken the WHSB “Reverse Advent Calendar” to heart and donated so generously. We feel it is important to be conscious of those less fortunate particularly at Christmas and we try and instil in our pupils a sense of community and responsibility towards others. This initiative is a perfect example of that sentiment. I would also like to pay tribute to the Pastoral Staff who have worked so hard to ensure the success of this initiative.”
