Westcliff High School for Boys are celebrating their Year 8 Team being crowned Essex Schools’ Rugby Champions for the second year running after winning the Rugby Waterfall Crossover competition. This year’s final, which took place at New Hall School in Chelmsford in October, saw the Westcliff High School for Boys U13 Team defeat Woodlands School 20-10.

Like the WHSB 2018 U13 Team before them, this year’s WHSB U13s went through the entire competition without losing a match, beating Southend High School for Boys, Coopers Coburn and KEGS in the group stage, scoring 16 tries and conceding none. Victory against the Brentwood School 15-10 in the semi-final secured their place in the final. The final itself against Woodlands School saw great excitement and high energy levels with WHSB’s Al Ameen Saalam being crowned the top scorer in the competition with 14 tries.

“I am so pleased for the team and their outstanding achievement enabling Westcliff High School for Boys to retain the U13s County Schools’ Rugby title. They have shown tremendous commitment and a desire to train hard which has paid off, enabling them to reap the rewards by winning the title for the School again.”
